Apply basalt powder to crops
Agriculture is a very unknown world for some, and that is why, from Vetonek today we are going to leave you with an article related to this topic that you may find really interesting, especially if you already know something about this sector. More specifically, we are going to talk in this article about how and where to apply basalt powder .
What is basalt powder?
Basalt dust, and more specifically what we have in our quarries , is a fertilizer that can be used to make crops grow stronger and healthier. The reason this powder is used is because it contains basalt, which is perfect for recovering the life of the microbes in a soil, it improves the chlorophyll function, but also the state of the plants and crops in a soil.
In addition, basalt powder contains a large amount of iron, magnesium and sodium, which helps to improve the condition of the soil.
What are its uses?
In reality, basalt dust has many different uses, including fruit growing, forestry , agriculture, gardening and floriculture, orchards, crops and, yes, also livestock farming. Let's see how it is used.
For the garden
In this case, the basalt powder is sprinkled on the ground using 200 to 300 grams for the one that is micronized, and, in the case of the fine one, between 500 and 600 grams. It can also be incorporated directly into the compost while you are creating the pile. This last use is the most recommended, since it not only improves composting thanks to the minerals it provides, but also develops more bacteria that carry out fermentation. But there is another way to use it: sprayed. In this case, we dilute the powder at a low dose in water and mix it with the necessary products.
Horticulture, fruit growing or forestry
If your intention is to use basalt powder for this purpose, even in pots, the best way to apply it is in handfuls . We will make a furrow and add a small handful to each of the plants (in the event that they are trees whose roots need to be improved, we will add several). As in the previous case, it can also be applied directly to the compost, in quantities of 10 to 15 kg per cubic meter if it is fine, and if it is thick, 20-30.
Vineyards and fruit trees: basalt powder
The results obtained in this type of crops are frankly interesting. When applying the powder you will need a tool, and you will have to be very careful not to hurt the roots of the tree. What we do is drill under the perimeter of the cup about 20 or 30 cm deep by another 5-10 cm in diameter and we add thick basalt. In the case of vines, small furrows, 5 or 6 centimeters, are made and the dust is applied.
