Where to place a gravel stabilizer?

When we want to place gravel roads or paths passable, whether by pedestrians or road traffic, it is recommended to place a gravel stabilizer.

The main function of this element is to keep the gravel compact in its different cells in order to avoid its dispersion throughout the terrain and provide fluid traffic, avoiding sinking during the journey.

Another function of the stabilizers is the easy and clean creation of draining paths, avoiding the creation of puddles and mud on the paths.

In this way, natural gravel paths and paths are achieved with the comfort of a concrete path. Suitable for walking, cycling, car and even for wheelchairs.

  • How to place gravel stabilizers?

Placing the gravel stabilizer is not excessively complicated, but it does require following specific steps; it is a matter of patience rather than skill.

    1. If the terrain on which you are going to place the stabilizer is dirt or grasses may grow, it is highly recommended to install a weed-proof mesh . We cut the mesh to the size of the space, stretch it well and secure it with fastening staples so that it does not move.
    2. Subsequently, in the case of the flexible stabilizer we extend it over the mesh, the stabilizer will have a spring effect and will shrink so it is essential to hold it around the entire perimeter with staples until it is perfectly stretched. In the case of the rigid gravel stabilizer, we place the plates on the mesh until it perfectly occupies the entire surface. In this case, securing it with staples will be optional since it is more difficult for it to move.
    3. We begin to fill the cells with gravel, first fill a section and then we can add more gravel on top of that section and push it towards the empty cells. From this moment on the work is easier and faster. Be careful not to pour a lot of gravel all at once onto the flexible gravel stabilizer, you have to add it very little by little because otherwise it will crush and/or lift.
    4. Once we have filled the entire stabilizer, it is recommended to add 5 mm more gravel, so that the stabilizer is not visible.
    5. It is recommended to step on the gravel well, if we have a roller that is heavy it would be perfect, but if we do not have one we can put a board and stand on it to step on the ground little by little, in this way the gravel will be compacted very well and we will achieve the comfortable effect we are looking for.

The investment in this type of product is not very large and the effect achieved once it is placed is very practical and pleasant for transit.
