Without a slope, water sits on the surface.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eOn a concrete base, spread exterior tile adhesive with a notched trowel. On ground, lay a 3-5 cm bedding mortar layer levelled off with a straightedge.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eLay out a full dry row before fixing anything, to adjust the layout and decide where the cuts fall: always against the edges, never in the middle.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eBed each piece with a rubber mallet and check the level with a long straightedge every two or three slabs.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eLeave a \u003cb\u003e3-5 mm joint\u003c\/b\u003e between pieces. Concrete expands in the heat and, laid tight, it chips along the edges.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eGrout after 24-48 hours with exterior mortar and remove the residue before it sets on the aggregate: on exposed aggregate, grout dried into the grain is very hard to get out.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ol\u003e\u003cblockquote\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003e💡 Pro tip:\u003c\/b\u003e with exposed aggregate, what ruins the job is almost always the grouting, not the laying. Work in small sections, wipe with a damp sponge before the mortar pulls and never let it dry on the grain. And order \u003cb\u003e5-7% extra material in a single batch\u003c\/b\u003e: the aggregate shifts in tone between batches and topping up half a pallet six months later never matches.
