Coca chimney cap: the look of brick with no bricklaying

Building an exposed-brick chimney on the roof means carrying up loose material, setting out courses and trusting the mortar to withstand years of weather. The Coca range gives the same result with precast pieces: each one is molded with the texture of a terracotta brick, so the cap goes up in just a few pieces, with the classic look of exposed brickwork but without its joints, its build time or its maintenance.

✅ Key advantages

  • Self-centering design: the pieces interlock and center themselves, so the assembly goes up plumb with no need to set out each course and with no error building up.
  • Two-thickness cap: the 40 × 40 and 50 × 50 cm cap pieces vary in thickness from edge to center — 5.5 to 9 cm and 6 to 10 cm respectively. That difference creates a slope: water doesn't pool on the cap, it runs off towards the edges and drips clear.
  • Brick texture with no mortar joints: the relief comes from the factory on the visible face, so there are no real joints to wash out, crack or fill with moss over the years.
  • Two finishes: Siena, the classic terracotta that matches curved roof tiles and traditional façades, and White for the caps, more neutral.
  • Concrete with no internal reinforcement: there's no steel inside for acidic smoke condensates to corrode. Nothing to paint, regrout or replace.
  • Manageable pieces: from 14.75 kg for the pillar piece, light enough to carry the whole cap up by hand.

🧰 Installation

  1. Measure the outer section of the flue and choose the pillar piece that wraps it, plus the cap that tops it.
  2. Level the existing top with mortar to get a horizontal plane for the first course to start on.
  3. Bed the first piece with mortar and check it's plumb: it's the only one you need to plumb carefully, since the self-centering fit aligns the rest.
  4. Stack the courses needed, always keeping the internal flue section clear.
  5. Finish with the cap, checking that the thicker side sits at the center so the slope drains towards the edges.
  6. Seal the support perimeter and clean mortar off the visible face before it hardens.

💡 Professional tip: don't fit the cap upside down. It sounds obvious, but with these variable-thickness pieces it happens more often than you'd think: fitted the wrong way round, the slope runs inward and water collects in the center, right above the flue mouth, seeps through the joint and runs down the duct carrying soot with it. The thick side always goes in the center. And if the chimney is too short, use the chance to build it up now: standard good practice in Spain is for the mouth to sit 1 m above the highest point within a 2 m radius, and each course of these pieces gives you 24 cm of height with the cap already finished.
