Excavate the tray's footprint and compact a 10-15 cm base of crushed aggregate; on uncompacted ground the tray will end up settling unevenly.
Have the 40 mm drain pipe installed and tested before laying the piece: once the 85 kg tray is in place, the drain is no longer accessible.
Spread a fresh mortar bed of 3-4 cm and lower the tray with two people or a sling, never sliding it on its edge.
Level with a rubber mallet, checking with a spirit level that water flows toward the drain and not toward the pool.
Seal the joint between the tray and the paving with an elastic polyurethane sealant, leaving 5-8 mm of clearance for expansion.
Wait at least 48 hours before running water through the shower or walking on the loaded tray.

💡 Professional tip: the most common mistake is setting the tray flush with the paving with the drain angled toward the pool. Leave the tray 1 cm above the surrounding paving and slope the fall outward: if soapy shower water runs back into the pool, it will spike chlorine consumption and throw off the pH every weekend. And if the shower sits on existing paving, don't bed it with a standard tile adhesive: use a C2 adhesive rated for immersion and outdoor use, since indoor-grade adhesive hydrolyses under constant moisture.
