🧰 Installation
Dry-lay the perimeter and decide the grain direction before bonding: on a piece that imitates wood, cross-grain stands out badly.
Mix pieces from several pallets to spread out grain variation and avoid the same pattern repeating every couple of planks.
Dampen the pool shell coping and bed with a C2 tile adhesive rated for outdoor and immersion use, using double buttering.
Keep a slope of 1.5-2% toward the outside along the whole edge.
Leave a 3-5 mm joint between pieces and an elastic expansion joint every 4-5 m and at the corners.
Grout with an outdoor-rated mortar in a tone close to the coping, to avoid drawing a grid that breaks the plank effect.

💡 Professional tip: the key to making wood-grain concrete read as real wood is in the grouting and the shuffling. Use a joint mortar in a tone very close to the piece: if it contrasts, it draws a grid and the eye stops reading planks and starts reading tiles. Open two or three pallets at once to alternate pieces; the mould repeats its pattern, and if you lay in pallet order the same grain will show up every few planks. Also, even though this material doesn't burn like a dark slab, it's still pool coping and not a paving slab: it works wet and cantilevered over the pool shell, so it needs an immersion-rated tile adhesive and an expansion joint against the surround slab.
