Ábrego Drainage Joint Mortar - Ready-to-Use Permeable Joint That Doesn't Stain

Ábrego: permeable joint mortar for outdoor paving

Grouting outdoor paving with the wrong material leaves puddles on the surface, slows the job down and stains the pieces you took such care to lay. Ábrego is a ready-to-use joint mortar made of selected aggregates and synthetic resins, with a permeable joint that lets surface water filter through instead of holding it back, and a colorless finish that won't stain or discolor the material.

✅ Key advantages

  • Permeable joint: filters surface water and prevents pooling and puddles on the paving.
  • Fast application: its dry consistency lets you sweep the product over the surface and fill joints much faster than with a slurry.
  • Doesn't stain: the colorless finish can be applied to any material with no risk of staining or discoloration.
  • Ready to use: a pre-mixed formula of selected aggregates and synthetic resins, no on-site dosing.
  • One-person job: dry sweeping cuts down on labor compared with traditional grouting.

🏗️ Recommended applications

  • Outdoor paving or slabs laid on a bed of aggregate.
  • Garden paths, walkways and pedestrian access.
  • Terraces and patios where you want water to drain through the joint.
  • Pool edges and landscaped areas with permeable paving.
  • Grouting artificial stone slabs outdoors.

This is not a rigid cementitious joint. Being permeable, it's designed for outdoor paving laid on a draining aggregate bed, where water needs to pass through the joint and drain away through the base. It doesn't replace a rigid, watertight joint mortar on paving bonded to a solid slab, in pool shells, or on any substrate requiring watertightness.

📋 Technical specifications

  • Type: ready-to-use permeable joint mortar.
  • Formula: selected aggregates and synthetic resins.
  • Consistency: dry.
  • Color: colorless, doesn't stain or discolor.
  • Permeability: filters surface water.
  • Coverage: approximately 40 kg/m², varying with joint width and depth.
  • Container content: 20 kg.
  • Unit weight: 20 kg.
  • Units per package: 1.

🧰 Application

  1. Check that the paving is bedded down, with the joint open and clean along its full depth.
  2. Remove dust and loose aggregate from the surface before starting.
  3. Spread the product over the paving and sweep it in diagonally to the joints until they're completely full.
  4. Compact the joint and go over any low spots with a second pass.
  5. Remove all excess from the surface: don't leave product sitting on the pieces.
  6. Follow the pack instructions for the rest of the process and keep the area protected from traffic until the joint has stabilized.

📦 Available formats

  • 20 kg bag, colorless, single unit.

💡 Professional tip: before ordering material, measure the joint properly. Usage rises sharply with depth: the same area with a 5 mm joint versus a 15 mm one can need double the bags, and the 40 kg/m² reference figure is only an order of magnitude. Allow 10% extra, and check beforehand that the paving actually drains: a permeable joint over a watertight slab has nowhere to send the water, it stays trapped, and in winter the ice will lift the pieces. If the paving is bonded to a solid slab, what you need is a rigid cementitious joint, not this one.
