Apply basalt powder to crops

Agriculture is a very unknown world for some people, and that is why, from Vetonek today we are going to leave you with an article related to this topic that may be truly interesting to you, especially if you already know something about this sector. More specifically, in this article we are going to talk about how and where to apply basalt dust.
What is basalt dust?
Basalt dust, and more specifically the one we have in our quarries, is a fertilizer that can be used to make crops grow stronger and healthier. The reason this dust is used is because it contains basalt, which is perfect for restoring the life of the microbes in a soil, improves chlorophyll function, but also the condition of the plants and crops in a field.
In addition, basalt dust contains a large amount of iron, magnesium and sodium, which helps improve the condition of the soil.
What are its uses?
In reality, basalt dust has many different uses among which are fruit growing, forestry, agriculture, gardening and floriculture, vegetable gardens, crops and, yes, also livestock farming. Let's see how it is used.
For the vegetable garden
In this case, the basalt dust is sprinkled on the soil using 200 to 300 grams for the micronized type, and, in the case of the fine type, between 500 and 600 grams. It can also be incorporated directly into the compost as you build the pile. This latter use is the most recommended, since it not only improves composting thanks to the minerals it provides, but also develops more the bacteria that are responsible for fermentation. But there is another way to use it: sprayed. In this case, we dilute the dust at a low dose in water and mix it with the products that are necessary.
Horticulture, fruit growing or forestry
If your intention is to use basalt dust for this purpose, even in pots, the best way to apply it is by handfuls. We will make a furrow and add a small handful to each plant (in the case of trees whose roots need to be improved, we will add several). Just like in the previous case, it can also be applied directly to the compost, in amounts of 10 to 15 kg per cubic meter if it is fine, and if it is coarse, 20-30.
Vineyards and fruit trees: basalt dust
The results obtained in this type of crop are truly interesting. When applying the dust you will need a tool, and you will have to be very careful so as not to damage the tree roots. What we do is drill below the canopy perimeter about 20 or 30 cm deep by another 5-10 cm in diameter and add coarse basalt. In the case of vineyards, small furrows are made, 5 or 6 centimeters, and the dust is applied.
