What is the REACH register?

REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) is a regulation of the European Union that was adopted in 2006 and came into force in 2007. Its main objective is to ensure a high level of protection for human health and the environment, as well as to boost the competitiveness of the chemical industry in Europe.

The REACH regulation establishes a legal framework for the manufacture, import, marketing, and use of chemical substances in the European Union. It requires companies to identify and manage the risks associated with the chemical substances they manufacture, import, or use, and to provide adequate information about these substances throughout the supply chain.

Companies must register the chemical substances they manufacture or import in quantities greater than one ton per year with the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). ECHA evaluates the information provided and may require additional testing or impose specific restrictions or authorizations for the use of certain substances, especially if they are considered hazardous.

In short, the REACH registration is a comprehensive regulatory system in the European Union that seeks to ensure safety and sustainability in the manufacture, import, and use of chemical substances, thereby protecting human health and the environment.
