Men's semi-fitted long-sleeve lab coat

Velilla 539001 men's semi-fitted lab coat: the classic white coat, with body

The time-honoured men's white coat, in 210 g/m² polyester-cotton twill. That fabric weight is what sets it apart: it is the densest coat in the catalogue, it is not see-through over a dark shirt and it withstands years of washing. Tailored-style long sleeves, central button fastening, back belt and three pockets. The women's version is reference 539002.

✅ Features

  • 210 g/m²: twenty grams more than most coats in the catalogue. This means a garment that hangs well, is not see-through and withstands more wash cycles.
  • Two-piece tailored-style sleeve: the sleeve follows the natural curve of the arm and does not bag at the elbow, which is what gives away a cheap coat after a month.
  • Back belt and rear vent: the belt lets you define the waist without the coat looking baggy; the vent gives freedom of movement when walking.
  • Front and back side panels: give shape without reducing working room.
  • Safety waist seam at the back: a seam that gives way before the fabric tears if the coat gets caught.
  • Three patch pockets: one chest pocket and two lower pockets.

🧺 Care

  • Wash at 60 °C. As it contains no elastane or chemical treatments, it tolerates the industrial cycle well.
  • The 65% polyester provides good dimensional stability: it shrinks very little.
  • Tumble dry at medium temperature; iron at medium temperature.
  • To keep it white, use a chlorine-free optical brightener. Chlorine bleach yellows polyester irreversibly.
  • Suitable for industrial laundering.

💡 Tip: This is the coat to choose when washing is done by an industrial laundry rather than by the wearer. With no elastane, no antibacterial treatment and no repellent finish, there is nothing in it that can degrade in a tunnel washer: just fabric. Coats with performance features (539006S stretch, 539010 microfibre) are better garments while their finishes last, but in an aggressive process this one outlives them.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does it differ from the 539002?

The 539002 is the same coat with a women's pattern and sizes from XS to 2XL. This one is for men and goes from S to 3XL. They are different patterns.

And from the unisex coat 539004?

The 539004 is lighter (180 g/m², 80/20) and has a straight unisex cut, with a wider size range from 2XS to 4XL. This 539001 has more body and hangs better.

Why does the 210 g/m² fabric weight matter?

Because a lightweight white coat is see-through over dark clothing and loses its shape sooner. At 210 g/m² the fabric has body and withstands more washes.

Can it withstand industrial washing at 90 degrees?

The manufacturer specifies 60 °C. It is the coat in the catalogue that best tolerates a harsh process because it contains no elastane or finishes that can degrade, but above 60 °C the white suffers.

Can it be sterilised in an autoclave?

No. The polyester-cotton blend is not approved for autoclaving; steam at 121-134 °C degrades the synthetic fibre.

Can I use bleach to keep it white?

No. Chlorine yellows white polyester irreversibly. Use a chlorine-free optical brightener.

Does it shrink?

Very little. The 65% polyester stabilises the fabric.
