240 g/m² 100% cotton twill jacket

Velilla 106003 100% cotton jacket

The jacket for jobs where polyester is not a good idea: 100% cotton twill at 240 g/m². It's a fabric with considerably more body than the 61601 jacket — 240 versus 190 g/m² — and, above all, pure cotton, which scorches rather than melts when hit by a spark. It has a concealed zip under a Velcro placket, so no metal is left exposed.

✅ Features

  • 100% cotton at 240 g/m²: breathes better than any blend and doesn't feel sticky when you sweat.
  • Concealed zip under a Velcro placket: the fastening doesn't rub or scratch the surface you're working on.
  • Elasticated side waistband for a better fit to the body.
  • Ribbed cuffs and front and back yoke, which provide structure and durability.
  • Two bellows chest pockets with flap and Velcro.
  • Four colours and sizes from 48 to 64.

👷 Suitable for

  • Workshops with angle grinders, bench grinders or light welding, where sparks fly.
  • Blacksmithing, locksmithing and boilermaking.
  • Work with radiant heat: ovens, foundries, industrial bakeries.
  • Staff with skin sensitive to synthetic fibres.
  • Uniforms that require natural fabric by company policy.

📋 Technical data

  • Velilla reference: 106003
  • Fabric: twill, 100% cotton, 240 g/m²
  • Fastening: concealed zip under Velcro placket
  • Pockets: 2 bellows chest pockets with flap and Velcro
  • Sizes: 48, 50, 52, 54, 56, 58, 60, 62 and 64

🧺 Care

  • Machine wash at 40°. Above that, cotton shrinks.
  • Needs ironing: pure cotton creases quite a lot. Iron it damp or with steam at a high temperature.
  • Close the Velcro fastenings before washing.
  • Avoid the tumble dryer, which is where it shrinks the most.

💡 Tip: Beware of a common misunderstanding: being made of cotton does not make it flame-retardant clothing. Cotton doesn't melt or stick to the skin like polyester, which is why it's preferable near sparks, but it burns just the same. For welding, foundry work or real thermal risk you need a garment with a flame-retardant treatment certified to EN ISO 11612 or EN ISO 11611, and this one isn't. As a workshop jacket and for work in hot conditions, however, it's the right choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it flame-retardant clothing?

No. Cotton doesn't melt when hit by a spark like polyester does, but it burns just the same. For real thermal risk you need EN ISO 11612 or EN ISO 11611.

Why choose cotton?

Because it breathes better, doesn't feel sticky when you sweat and doesn't stick to the skin when hit by a spark.

What fabric weight is it?

240 g/m2, compared with the 190 g/m2 of the 61601 jacket.

Why is the zip concealed?

So that no metal is exposed that could scratch the surface being worked on.

Does it shrink?

Yes, slightly, as it's pure cotton. Wash at 40 degrees and avoid the tumble dryer.

Does it crease?

Much more than a polyester blend. It's best to steam iron it.

What sizing does it use?

Trouser sizing, from 48 to 64.
