Concrete lattice block: close without walling up
The lattice block is a perforated concrete block measuring 40x10x40 cm that is laid like any other masonry unit, piece by piece and set with mortar, but leaves the pattern opening clear from side to side. It does exactly what a solid wall cannot do: ventilate, filter light, and block direct sightlines without leaving the patio in the dark or turning it into a pit. The manufacturer supplies it in white and cream.

Closes without blocking light: the through-opening cuts the view from outside but lets air flow and light in, which is exactly what is needed in inner patios, drying areas, and boundaries between plots.
Clean 40x40 module: each piece covers 40x40 cm of wall, so layout is done in 40 cm multiples and the pattern matches course to course without cuts in the middle of the wall.
Only 10 cm thick: with that thickness the enclosure is slender and takes up very little space, something that is appreciated on terraces and narrow patios.
Strength stated by the manufacturer: standardized compressive strength fb of 5 N/mm², accepted at ≥4 N/mm² for load-bearing masonry and ≥3 N/mm² for supported masonry.
Exposed concrete: it is left as it comes from the factory, with no coating or paint, and withstands weather exposure with no maintenance.
Two light tones: white and cream, which reflect light and do not heat up the wall as much as a dark color does.

🧰 Installation
Lay out the wall in 40 cm multiples and decide where the cuts will fall: always against the pillar or wall, never in the middle.
Start on a well-leveled footing or continuous tie beam. The first course matters: if it goes out of level, the error will carry all the way up.
Build with masonry mortar, course by course, with full bed and head joints, checking plumb with a straightedge and level every two or three courses.
Anchor the wall to pillars, piers, or side walls, and finish it at the top with coping or a tie beam: the lattice block closes the space, but it is not designed to work on its own as a load-bearing wall.
Clean fresh mortar from the exposed face and the openings with a damp sponge before it sets.

💡 Pro tip: a lattice has a good side and a working side, and the pattern is not always symmetrically deep: before you start, lay four or five pieces dry on the floor, look at the wall from the angle it will actually be seen, and decide on the orientation. Once you have built up three courses with mortar, there is no turning back. And do not leave it freestanding and unanchored: an openwork panel offers less wind resistance than a solid one, but it still needs pillars or piers every few meters and a top finish to tie it together.
