Where should a gravel stabilizer be placed?

When we want to install gravel paths or walkways that are passable, whether for pedestrians or vehicle traffic, it is recommended to place a gravel stabilizer.

The main function of this element is to keep the gravel compact in its different cells, thus preventing it from spreading across the entire ground and providing smooth traffic without sinking during the journey.

Another function of stabilizers is the easy and clean creation of draining paths, preventing the formation of puddles and mud on the paths.

In this way, natural gravel paths and walkways are achieved with the comfort of a concrete path. Suitable for walking, cycling, cars, and even wheelchairs.

How do you install gravel stabilizers?

Installing the gravel stabilizer is not overly complicated, but it does require following certain steps; it is more a matter of patience than skill.

If the ground where you are going to install the stabilizer is soil or weeds may grow, it is highly recommended to put down a weed control mesh. We cut the mesh to the size of the space, stretch it well, and secure it with fixing staples so it does not move.
Later, in the case of the flexible stabilizer, the e spread over the mesh, the stabilizer will have a spring effect and will shrink, so it is essential to secure it around the entire perimeter with staples until it is perfectly stretched. In the case of the rigid gravel stabilizer, we place the plates on the mesh until it perfectly covers the entire surface; in this case, securing it with staples will be optional since it is less likely to move.
We begin filling the cells with the gravel; first fill one section and then we can pour more gravel on top of that section and push it toward the empty cells. From this point on, the work is easier and faster. Be careful not to pour too much gravel at once onto the flexible gravel stabilizer; it must be poured very slowly because otherwise it will flatten and/or lift up.
Once we have filled the entire stabilizer, it is recommended to add 5 mm more gravel so that the stabilizer is not visible.
It is recommended to step on the gravel well; if we have a heavy roller, that would be perfect, but if we do not have one, we can place a board and stand on it to gradually step on the ground. In this way, the gravel will compact very well and we will achieve the comfortable effect we are looking for.

The investment in this type of product is not very large and the effect achieved once it is installed is very practical and pleasant for walking on.
