The square base sits better on narrow wall copings; the round one gives a softer look when the balustrade is seen from several angles. Both are manufactured without internal reinforcement, through high compaction, so there is no steel to rust and burst the piece.

Mark the spacing between centers from one end of the run to the other, not piece by piece.
Drill and fit the galvanized dowel at each marked point.

Plumb each piece and check the run with a string line before the mortar starts to set.
Fit the top cap and point the joints once the whole assembly has settled.
