Bellota wire brushes and abrasive discs are used to clean, derust, grind and cut: hand wire brushes, brushes for drills, bench grinders and angle grinders, abrasive nylon brushes, and cutting, grinding and flap discs.

Types of brushes and discs

  • Hand wire brushes: with a wooden handle and brass-coated steel, stainless steel or crimped spark-free brass, such as the 50802 in stainless steel, plus narrow brushes and a spark plug cleaning brush.
  • Brushes for drills and angle grinders: circular, cup, paintbrush-style and cone brushes with a shank for drills, such as the 50807 circular brush, and industrial versions for bench or angle grinders, with crimped or twisted wire and an M14 thread on the cup and cone models.
  • Abrasive nylon brushes: circular brush with a shank in grit 180 fine or grit 80 coarse, such as the 50825F.
  • Cutting discs: for stainless steel and metal, such as the 50300 extra-fine, for stone, concrete and brick, and a multi-material disc for stone, ceramic and non-ferrous metals.
  • Grinding and flap discs: grinding discs for stainless steel and hard metal (50351), soft metal, stone and concrete, and flap discs with a flat (50501) or concave backing for wood, metal, stainless steel and stone.

How to choose

  • Choose the wire material to suit the workpiece: brass-coated for general use, stainless for stainless steel and spark-free brass where sparks must be avoided.
  • For a drill use brushes with a shank; for an angle grinder, those with a thread or the industrial ones designed for it.
  • Tell cutting from grinding: the cutting disc is thin for cutting, while the thicker grinding disc removes material.
  • Check that the disc is rated for your material: stainless steel and metal, stone and concrete, or multi-material.
  • Never exceed the maximum speed marked on the disc or brush and always wear eye protection.

Which wire brush should I use to remove rust?

To remove rust from metal, a brass-coated steel wire brush, by hand or fitted to a drill, usually does the job. On stainless steel it is best to use a stainless steel brush as well.

What is the difference between a cutting disc and a grinding disc?

The cutting disc is for cutting and the grinding disc is for removing material and reducing surfaces. Bellota offers both for stainless steel and metal, and also for stone and concrete.

Which brush is better for a drill and which for an angle grinder?

For a drill, brushes with a shank such as the 50807; for an angle grinder, the industrial ones, including cup and cone brushes with an M14 thread. Always check that the accessory is compatible with your machine.

What is an abrasive nylon brush used for?

It is used to clean and matt surfaces more gently than wire. Bellota offers it in grit 180 fine and grit 80 coarse.

What is a flap disc?

It is a disc made of overlapping abrasive flaps that grinds and leaves a more uniform finish. It comes with a flat or concave backing, for wood and metal, stainless steel or stone depending on the model.
