Build a level concrete strip footing and let it cure before you start building up.
Set out the first course dry, from corner to corner, and adjust the short pieces where needed.
Bed each course with jointing mortar for decorative masonry, using the Z-shaped ridge as a guide.
Mix pieces from different pallets to spread out tone variations and avoid color patches.
Top the wall with the wall coping, giving it a slight slope toward the outside.
Clean off any fresh mortar residue with a damp sponge before it hardens.

💡 Pro tip: the most common mistake is finishing the wall with the coping perfectly level. Give it a fall of 1 to 2 cm toward the outer side: if water stands on top of the wall it ends up seeping through the joint and, with the first frost, it bursts the mortar. Also allow for 5% extra pieces for cuts and corners.
