Aged Ayllón Paver 7 cm - Broken edges for historic town centers

Ayllón Paver: the aged paver for pavements with a historic feel

The Ayllón Paver leaves the factory tumble-aged: the pieces are tumbled until the edges are broken and the borders worn, so a newly laid pavement already looks as if it has been down for decades. The irregularity of edges and corners is not a manufacturing defect: it is the finish. With a thickness of 7 cm and three combinable sizes of 24x16, 16x16 and 12x16 cm, it is the natural choice for historic town centres, square refurbishments, country house entrances and rustic-style gardens.

✅ Advantages

  • Factory-aged: the tumbling process breaks the edges and rounds the borders. There is no need to wait years for the pavement to gain character: it arrives with it already on.
  • Irregularity is the selling point: no piece is exactly the same as the next, and that variation in edge and tone is precisely what stops the paved surface from looking industrial.
  • Three sizes that mix together: 24x16, 16x16 and 12x16 cm share the same thickness and colour range, so they can be combined in the same paved area to break up the grid pattern.
  • 7 cm thick: the manufacturer approves it for pedestrian use and for areas subject to vehicle traffic and covered areas.
  • Concrete compliant with UNE-EN 1338: strength Xi>2.9 / X8>3.6 MPa, breaking load X8>250 N/mm, abrasion class 4 I (Xi < 20 mm) and absorption class 2B (X8 < 6 %).
  • Removable pavement: when laid on sand, it can be lifted and replaced piece by piece, without breaking up the paved area, to run pipework or carry out repairs.

🏗️ Applications

  • Streets and squares in historic town centres and urban refurbishment projects.
  • Entrances, courtyards and threshing floors of country houses, wineries and charming hotels.
  • Walkways, garden paths and seating areas with a rustic finish.
  • Car parks and driveways for light vehicles within the property.
  • Pool surrounds, porches and outdoor terraces.

🧰 Installation

  1. Excavate and compact the subgrade, and spread a well-compacted 15-20 cm crushed aggregate base (thicker if vehicles will pass over it).
  2. Lay a 3-5 cm bedding layer of sand, levelled with screed rails and left uncompacted.
  3. Lay the pavers tightly butted, leaving a 3-5 mm joint, always working from three or four pallets at the same time so that the shade batches are evenly distributed and no patches appear.
  4. Save the cut pieces for the edges: the cut edge comes out clean and breaks the aged effect, so place it against the kerb or the wall.
  5. Sweep dry silica sand over the pavement until all the joints are filled.
  6. Compact with a plate compactor fitted with a rubber pad and sweep sand over again. Repeat until the joint stops sinking.

📦 Sizes and colours

  • On request: it is also manufactured in 21x17x7 cm, 8x8x7 cm and 24x16x5 cm. Contact us for lead time and price.
  • Packaging: per square metre or per full pallet.

💡 Professional tip: order 5 to 7 % more surface area than you have measured: between cuts, finishing work and the odd chipped piece, that margin disappears. And don't empty a whole pallet before opening the next one: coloured concrete changes slightly in shade between batches, and if you lay pallet by pallet you end up seeing bands. By working from three pallets at once, the variation is spread out and reads as richness of colour, which is exactly what you want in an aged paver.
