Types of vegetable garden tools

  • Transplanters: the narrow 3000 is made of aluminium and has a 60 mm working width, ideal for window boxes and pots; the wide 2985 is made of fibreglass and has a planting scale.
  • Cultivators: the adjustable HML1000 lets you configure its tines to suit the task and has a T-handle with ComfortGEL grip.
  • Oscillating hoes: the LHT308610 cuts surface weeds with a simple back-and-forth motion, with no chemicals.
  • Scarifiers: the 3080CM breaks up the moss layer and aerates the lawn.
  • Multi-purpose: the HMC3000S hori-hori is used for digging, planting, dividing perennials and cutting roots.

How to choose vegetable garden tools

  • Work space: a narrow transplanter for pots and window boxes, a wide one for more soil.
  • Material: aluminium is light and made in one piece; fibreglass does not deform.
  • Handle: short for working close to the ground, long for working standing with a straight back.
  • Weeds: oscillating hoe, hand weeder or cultivator if you prefer to avoid chemicals.

Frequently asked questions

What tool do I need for transplanting plants?

A transplanter. The narrow one fits between plants growing close together and in small pots, and the wide one moves more soil; the 2985 includes a depth scale for planting.

How do I remove weeds without chemicals?

With hand tools such as an oscillating hoe, a weeder or a cultivator. Bellota's Fito 0% range is designed for weeding without herbicides.

What is a scarifier for?

It breaks up the layer of moss and lichen in the lawn and aerates the soil and roots. It is used in spring to clean the lawn and in autumn to prepare it before its recovery phase.

What is a hori-hori?

It is a multi-purpose garden knife with a blade that is smooth on one side and serrated on the other, used for digging, planting, transplanting, cutting roots and weeding.

Is an aluminium or a fibreglass transplanter better?

Both are light. The aluminium one, like the 3000, has a one-piece head; the fibreglass one, like the 2985, does not deform even in compacted soil.
