Vetonek Plant Compost

Vetonek Plant Compost: mature organic matter for vegetable gardens and gardens

Vetonek Plant Compost, from the Mineravi brand, is an organic soil amendment obtained by composting plant waste and bulking materials (bark and pruning waste). A controlled aerobic decomposition process produces a mature, stable, medium-grain compost, ready to work into the soil.

It is the simplest way to bring life back to your soil: it improves its structure, retains moisture and boosts microbial activity without resorting to chemical fertilizers.

Benefits

  • Provides organic matter and slow-release nutrients.
  • Improves soil structure: loosens heavy soils and gives body to sandy ones.
  • Retains moisture and reduces the need for watering.
  • Boosts microbial life and promotes root development.
  • Ideal as a mulch in flower beds and under trees and shrubs.
  • Made from recycled plant waste.

Recommended uses

  • Vegetable garden: preparing beds and enriching the soil before sowing or transplanting.
  • Garden: planting trees, shrubs, hedges, rose bushes and ornamental plants.
  • Lawn: top dressing and improvement of poor or compacted soils.
  • Pots and planters: mixed with potting substrate or topsoil.
  • Mulch: a 3–5 cm layer on the surface to retain moisture and suppress weeds.

What to mix Plant Compost with? Recommended mixes

Compost is rarely used on its own: mixed with other materials, its uses multiply. These are the classic mixes, all made with products you will find at Vetonek:

  • Enriched topsoil: 1 part compost to 2–3 parts topsoil. The perfect mix for filling flower beds, slopes and new planting areas.
  • Planting holes: 1 part compost to 3 parts of the soil from the hole itself when planting trees, shrubs, hedges or fruit trees.
  • Substrate for pots and planters: 20–30% compost with universal potting substrate, adding 10–15% exfoliated vermiculite to aerate the mix and retain just the right amount of moisture.
  • Lawn top dressing: compost mixed in equal parts with silica sand (or combined with our Organic Lawn Top Dressing), spread in a thin 0.5–1 cm layer after scarifying.
  • Raised vegetable beds: 40% compost + 40% soil + 20% drainage material such as vermiculite or fine volcanic gravel.
  • Difficult soils: in clay soils, compost + silica sand to loosen and drain; in sandy soils, compost alone already helps retain water and nutrients.

Tip: avoid using compost in seed trays and for acid-loving plants (hydrangeas, azaleas, blueberries), which prefer specific substrates.

Recommended dosage

  • Base amendment: 5–10 litres per m², worked into the top 15–20 cm of soil.
  • Planting trees and shrubs: mix with the backfill soil of the hole at a 1:3 ratio.
  • Pots and planters: 20–30% compost in the mix.
  • Annual maintenance: 3–5 litres per m² in spring or autumn.

A 15 L bag covers approximately 1.5–3 m² as a base amendment. A 1,000 L big bag covers between 100 and 200 m².
