Velilla 535205 100% Cotton Scrub Top: No Polyester at All
The only scrub top in the catalog made from 100% cotton, in 190 g/m² twill. It is chosen for two specific reasons: when there is a risk of sparks or radiant heat, because cotton chars while polyester melts and sticks to the skin, and when the wearer cannot tolerate synthetic fibers. It is a separate piece: trousers are not included. The matching trousers, also in pure cotton, are reference 533005.
✅ Features
100% cotton: no synthetic fiber. When exposed to a spark, cotton chars; polyester melts and sticks to the skin, making the burn worse. It is not a certified flame-retardant garment, but it is significantly less hazardous.
Breathable: cotton absorbs moisture, which is welcome in food-production workshops, kitchens and hot environments.
V-neck and side vents: goes on over the head without catching your hair and gives extra room when bending down.
Three patch pockets.
190 g/m² twill: a fabric with body that is not see-through despite being white.

🧺 Care
Wash at 60 °C. Cotton tolerates higher temperatures than blends with elastane.
Shrinks more than blends: pure cotton loses some size in the first wash.
It wrinkles easily and needs more ironing than a scrub top containing polyester.
It takes longer to dry than synthetic blends.
Being white and 100% cotton, it withstands bleach better than polyester.
💡 Tip: Order one size up from your usual. Pure cotton shrinks in the first wash considerably more than a 65/35 blend, and on a scrub top this is noticeable above all in the body length and the sleeve. If you are buying for a team, let them know before taking sizes: it is the number one cause of exchanges in the first month with pure cotton garments.

Why choose 100% cotton?
For safety against sparks or radiant heat, because cotton chars whereas polyester melts and sticks to the skin; and for comfort for wearers with skin sensitivity to synthetic fibres.
Is it a flame-retardant garment?
No. Being cotton makes it less dangerous than a polyester garment when exposed to a spark, but it is not a certified flame-retardant garment. For a real thermal risk you need a garment certified to a specific EN standard.
Does it shrink in the wash?
Yes, more than 65/35 blends, especially in body length and sleeve length. Order one size above your usual one.
Can it withstand industrial washing at 90 degrees?
The manufacturer specifies 60 °C. Cotton tolerates high temperatures better than elastane blends, but at 90 °C shrinkage soars.
Can it be sterilised in an autoclave?
Cotton withstands steam better than polyester, but the garment is not approved as an autoclave textile.
