Self-locking Wavy Briones Concrete Paver - Locks in place and does not shift

Briones Paver: the wavy paver that locks itself in place

The Briones paver is not a rectangle: it is a wavy, bone-shaped paver whose side faces interlock with one another. This mechanical interlock means the paving does not shift even when vehicles brake, accelerate or turn on it. That is why it is the paver for car parks, roundabouts and driveways, while the Lerma paver is the classic rectangular one for walkways and patios.

✅ Advantages

  • Self-interlocking: the bone-shaped profile locks each piece into the next and spreads loads across the whole surface, not onto a single paver.
  • Doesn't open up under braking: this is the real difference compared with a rectangular paver in braking, turning and starting areas.
  • Two thicknesses: 6 cm for pedestrian use and light traffic; 8 cm for vehicular traffic.
  • Certified strength: UNE-EN 1338, strength Xi>2.9 / X8>3.6 MPa and satisfactory breaking load X8>250 N/mm.
  • Wear and absorption: class 4 I (Xi<20 mm) and class 2B absorption (X8<6%).
  • Four factory colors: gray, cream, red and black.

🏗️ Applications

  • Car parks and maneuvering areas.
  • Garage driveways, ramps and dropped curbs where wheels turn.
  • Urban roads, roundabouts and braking zones.
  • High-traffic squares and pedestrian areas.
  • Walkable roofs.

📋 Technical specifications

  • 22.5x11.25x6 cm: 40 pieces/m², 135 kg/m², pallet of 8.87 m² (350 pieces) and 1,197 kg actual weight.
  • 22.5x11.25x8 cm: 40 pieces/m², 178 kg/m², pallet of 6.73 m² (266 pieces) and 1,198 kg actual weight.
  • Material: vibro-pressed concrete.
  • Shape: wavy bone-shaped, with side interlock between pieces.
  • Standard: UNE-EN 1338. Strength Xi>2.9 / X8>3.6 MPa. Breaking load X8>250 N/mm.
  • Wear: class 4 I, Xi<20 mm. Absorption: class 2B, X8<6%.
  • Intended use: pedestrian use, areas subject to vehicle traffic and roofs.

🧰 Installation

  1. Excavate the bed and compact the natural ground, forming the drainage slope from the bottom up.
  2. Spread and compact a crushed stone base of 15-20 cm for pedestrian use, and 25-30 cm if there will be vehicular traffic.
  3. Lay a 3-5 cm bedding sand layer, screeded flat with a straightedge and not compacted.
  4. Lay the pavers, fitting the wavy profile together piece by piece, starting from a straight edge and mixing several pallets at once.
  5. Confine the perimeter with a curb or concrete edging: without it, the Briones interlock loses its effect at the edges.
  6. Sweep silica sand into the joints, run the plate compactor with a rubber pad over it and repeat the sand sweeping a few days later.

📦 Formats and colors

  • Briones paver 22.5x11.25x6 cm — gray and color.
  • Briones paver 22.5x11.25x8 cm — gray and color.
  • Factory shades available: gray, cream, red and black. Cream, red and black are priced under the Color value, which is how the manufacturer invoices them.

💡 Professional tip: order 5-7% extra material for cuts and finishing, and buy it all at once: a pallet ordered months later rarely matches in shade. During installation, mix pieces from three or four pallets to spread out the shade variations so your floor doesn't end up patchy. And choose the thickness based on traffic, not price: 6 cm is for pedestrians and light cars; as soon as loaded vans or trucks come in, go with 8 cm over well-compacted crushed stone. In braking and turning areas, the Briones will perform far better than a rectangular paver.

Frequently asked questions

What does it mean that the Briones paver is self-interlocking?

It is a wavy, bone-shaped paver whose side faces interlock with one another. This mechanical interlock prevents the paving from shifting when vehicles brake, accelerate or turn.

Which thickness should I choose?

There are two thicknesses: 6 cm for pedestrian use and light traffic, and 8 cm for vehicular traffic. Choose the thickness according to the traffic it will have to bear.

What sizes and colors does it come in?

It measures 22.5x11.25 cm in thicknesses of 6 and 8 cm. The available shades are gray, cream, red and black.

How many pieces per square meter do I need?

You need 40 pieces per m² in both thicknesses. The 6 cm pallet covers 8.87 m² and the 8 cm pallet covers 6.73 m².

Where is it recommended for use?

It is recommended for car parks, garage driveways, ramps, dropped curbs, urban roads, roundabouts, high-traffic pedestrian squares and walkable roofs.
