Jávea Pool Coping - Decorative Finish With Roman Steps Solution
Jávea Pool Coping - Decorative Finish With Roman Steps Solution
Jávea Pool Coping: decorative crown with a solution for Roman steps
Roman-style steps are usually where a pool coping looks worst: you need to wrap a curved front and wide steps with pieces that aren't meant for it. The Jávea range includes pieces made specifically for Roman steps, plus inner and outer corner pieces, so the whole pool, steps included, is finished with factory-made material.
✅ Key advantages
- Roman-steps solution: the range includes the pieces needed to wrap the entry steps with no improvised cutting.
- Inner and outer corner pieces: the pool's corners are closed with manufactured pieces.
- 9.5 kg per piece: light enough for one worker to lay the whole perimeter alone.
- Three colours: white, champagne and pirineos, to suit light, warm or grey paving.
- Slip-resistant, USRV 46, class 3: the level required on wet outdoor surfaces.
- 2.5 to 3 cm edge: a discreet section that sits flush with thin paving without creating a step.
🏗️ Recommended applications
- Capping built-in pools with mosaic tile, liner or chlorinated-rubber paint finish.
- Coping for Roman-style steps and ramped accesses.
- Edges of fibreglass and prefabricated pool shells.
- Closing inside and outside corners with a corner piece.
- Capping ornamental ponds and water features.

🧰 Installation
- Dry-lay the whole perimeter first, starting with the Roman steps and the four corners, the areas with no room for adjustment.
- Wet the pool's edge before bonding; dry concrete stops the adhesive from curing properly.
- Bed with a C2 cement-based adhesive rated for outdoor and immersion use, double-buttered.
- Set a 1.5-2% fall towards the outside along the whole edge.
- Leave a 3-5 mm joint between pieces and an elastic expansion joint every 4-5 m and at every corner.
- Point with an outdoor-rated mortar and seal the joint against the pool shell with polyurethane sealant.

💡 Professional tip: set out the Roman steps first, never last. Start laying from the steps outward and leave any leftover adjustment on a long straight run; do it the other way round and you'll end up cutting pieces in the pool's most visible area. Keep in mind this coping is only 2.5-3 cm thick: that's discreet, but it also means it won't forgive an uneven crown or an air pocket under the piece, so always double-butter and use a rubber mallet until the adhesive squeezes out. Order 10% extra material, bearing in mind corner pieces come on separate pallets and curved steps use up more pieces than the drawing suggests.
Frequently Asked Questions
