Lekeitio facing clay roof board for ceilings

A handcrafted exposed ceiling with the warm tone of the wood-fired kiln

The Vetonek Lekeitio facing clay roof board is a handmade piece in flashed straw colour for exposed ceilings between timber or steel beams. Firing in a wood-fired kiln gives every piece a one-of-a-kind tone, and its strength allows it to act as a support for the floor slab or the roof.

✅ Advantages

  • Exposed finish straight away: stays visible with no plastering or painting, showing the flashed straw colour typical of wood firing.
  • Flat or curved: flat board for smooth ceilings and curved, vault-style board for small vaults between beams.
  • Dual function: it is both the ceiling finish and the support for the floor slab or the roof.
  • Clear coverage: 7.6 pcs/m² with 60 cm pieces and 6.5 with 70 cm pieces.

🏗️ Applications

  • Exposed ceilings between timber or steel beams in rustic homes.
  • Renovation of village houses, farmhouses and traditional country homes.
  • Vaulted ceilings between beams with the curved model.

🧰 Installation

  1. Set out the beams at a spacing that matches the board length (60 or 70 cm).
  2. Mix pieces from several packs before laying to spread the tones evenly.
  3. Rest the boards on the beams with the facing side down and the joints aligned.
  4. Apply the top layer specified in the project without staining the facing side.
  5. Clean off mortar residue before it hardens.

💡 Vetonek tip: Order all the material at once: with wood firing, the tone varies from one kiln batch to the next.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many boards do I need per m²?

7.6 pieces per m² for the 60 cm models and 6.5 pieces per m² for the 70 cm models.

What is the difference between the flat and the curved model?

The flat board (3 cm thick) creates a smooth ceiling between beams. The curved board, with a 12 or 15 cm rise, forms a small vault between beams for a more traditional look.

Should I choose the 60 or the 70 cm piece?

It depends on the spacing between beams: the board length must match the beam layout of your ceiling.

Why does each piece have a different tone?

It is fired in a wood-fired kiln, which gives a unique flashed straw colour. That is why it is best to mix pieces from several packs when laying.

Can it be used as a support for the floor slab or the roof?

Yes, its strength allows it to be used as a support for the floor slab or the roof, always in line with the project specifications.

How much does a pallet weigh?

Between 623.5 kg (flat 60, 145 pcs) and 727.9 kg (flat 70, 145 pcs). The curved pallets weigh 688 kg (60 cm) and 660 kg (70 cm).

Can I buy less than a pallet?

Yes, there are packs of 70 pcs for the flat model, 80 pcs for the curved 60 and 65 pcs for the curved 70, covering 9.21 to 10.77 m².

Does it need painting or cladding?

No, it is a facing board: it stays visible in its natural colour. You only need to clean off mortar residue thoroughly.

Is there a technical data sheet?

Yes, the technical data sheet is sent on request.
