Duna Olite Golden Sandstone Slab - Natural Stone
Duna Olite Sandstone Slab · Golden: natural stone with centuries of history
Before reaching your terrace or your façade, this stone was sand. Sand from ancient rivers and deserts that the earth pressed, layer by layer over millions of years, in the mountains of Burgos until it became rock. That history is what you read in its veining, and it is why no two Duna Olite sandstone slabs are ever alike.
Its golden tone recalls the colour of ripe wheat and of medieval walls in the late afternoon sun. Its beige background is crossed by orange and brown veins, with small flecks of mica that sparkle in low light. It is also the hardest of the Duna family (68 MPa compressive strength): beauty with character, for floors walked on every day.
Sandstone is one of the stones used to build churches, bridges and houses that have stood for centuries. So when you bring it into your home, you are not just buying another floor or wall cladding: you are choosing a material that has already proven it knows how to age well.
✨ Why Duna Olite sandstone wins hearts
- Unrepeatable beauty: every piece has its own veining and its own shade. No two spaces built with Duna sandstone look alike.
- Warm and alive: it changes with the light throughout the day and brings a welcoming feel that artificial materials cannot match.
- Ages with elegance: over the years it gains patina and character, like the stone of old villages, with no paints or treatments.
- Cool underfoot: sandstone does not store as much heat as other materials, so you can walk barefoot in summer.
- Beautiful and tough: tested through 56 freeze-thaw cycles (UNE-EN 12371) and thermal shock, suitable for outdoor use in cold climates. When wet it scores 85 SRV, well above class 3 of building-code slip requirements (over 45), so it grips well on pool edges and terraces.
- Truly natural: stone from a Spanish quarry, sawn cut, CE marked. No resins, no imitations.
🏡 Where to use it
- Terraces, patios, porches and high-traffic garden paths.
- Pool copings and pool surrounds.
- Façade and wall cladding in 2 cm.
- Restoration of country houses and stone buildings.
- Rustic interiors: living rooms, entrances and cellars.

🛠️ More finishes and made-to-measure pieces
The slabs in the shop are supplied sawn cut, but Duna sandstone is also available in other finishes: bush-hammered, honed, picked, split-faced and brushed (depending on the tone).
And if your project needs something special, we make it to measure: other formats and thicknesses, steps, copings, window sills, kerbs, lintels, ashlar or rubble masonry. Write to us with the dimensions, finish and quantity, and we will prepare a no-obligation quote.
📦 Sales formats
- 10-piece pack: perfect for small areas, repairs or seeing the stone at home before a large order. 60x40: 2.4 m² · 60x30: 1.8 m² · 80x40: 3.2 m² · 100x50: 5 m².
- Full pallet: the most convenient option for building work, palletised and strapped. Approx. 24 m² in 2 cm and 15 m² in 3 cm (the exact number of pieces is shown in each option).
🎨 Other tones in the Duna range
💡 Professional tip: for outdoor floors with foot traffic choose 3 cm; 2 cm performs best on façades and walls. Allow 5–10% extra surface for cuts and trimming, and mix pieces from several packs or pallets when laying to spread the natural tone variations. Outdoors, lay on a screed with a 1–2% slope and use a breathable water repellent if you want easier cleaning.
🪨 Natural stone: each batch may vary slightly in tone and veining from the photos. That is the signature of an authentic material, not a defect.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it withstand frost?
Yes. It has been tested through 56 freeze-thaw cycles (UNE-EN 12371) and keeps over 90% of its flexural strength. It is suitable for outdoor use in cold and mountain areas.
Is it slippery when wet?
No. When wet it scores 85 SRV in the pendulum test, well above the 45 that building codes require for class 3, the highest. It is suitable for terraces and pool edges.
Is it suitable for high-traffic floors?
Yes. Olite is the hardest tone in the Duna range, with 68 MPa compressive strength, and the most recommended for terraces, paths and heavy-use areas.
Which thickness should I choose, 2 or 3 cm?
The 2 cm is ideal for cladding façades and walls. For outdoor floors with foot traffic we recommend 3 cm.
Are other finishes or special sizes available?
Yes. Besides the sawn cut there are bush-hammered, honed, picked, split-faced and brushed finishes, and we make other formats, steps, copings, kerbs or ashlar to measure. Write to us with dimensions, finish and quantity and we will send you a no-obligation quote.
How many m² come in each pack or pallet?
The 10-piece pack covers 60x40: 2.4 m², 60x30: 1.8 m², 80x40: 3.2 m², 100x50: 5 m². Full pallet: approx. 24 m² in 2 cm and 15 m² in 3 cm; the exact number of pieces is shown in each option.
How much does it weigh?
Around 44 kg/m² in 2 cm and 66 kg/m² in 3 cm. A full pallet weighs about a tonne.
How many slabs do I need?
Measure the area in m², add 5–10% for cuts and trimming and choose the packs or pallets that cover that total.
Do all the slabs have the same colour?
Not exactly: it is natural stone and every piece has its own veining and tone. Mix pieces from different packs or pallets when laying for an even result.
Does it need maintenance?
Very little. Just clean it with water and neutral soap. Optionally you can apply a breathable water repellent to make cleaning easier.
Are there other tones?
Yes, the Duna range has four tones: Olite · Golden, Viana · Pink, Isaba · White and Tudela · Ochre. You will find the links at the end of the description.
