100% cotton healthcare scrub trousers

Velilla 533005 100% cotton healthcare scrub trousers: no polyester at all

The only scrub trousers in the catalogue in 100% cotton, in 190 g/m² twill. They are chosen for two very specific reasons: when there is a risk of sparks or radiant heat, because cotton chars whereas polyester melts and sticks to the skin, and when the wearer has skin that is sensitive to synthetic fibres. Sold separately: the tunic is not included. The matching tunic, also in 100% cotton, is reference 535205.

✅ Features

  • 100% cotton: no synthetic fibre. When exposed to a spark, cotton chars; polyester melts and sticks to the skin, making the burn worse. It is not a certified flame-retardant garment, but it is significantly less dangerous than polyester scrubs.
  • Breathable: cotton absorbs moisture, which is welcome in hot environments and for skin that doesn't tolerate synthetics.
  • Fully elasticated waist: on and off in seconds, with no button or zip.
  • Two slanted side pockets.
  • 190 g/m² twill weave: a fabric with body that isn't see-through despite being white.

👷 Suitable for

  • Chemistry and analysis laboratories with burners or hot plates.
  • Food industry, bakery workshops and bakeries with ovens.
  • Institutional kitchens.
  • Wearers with skin sensitivity to synthetic fibres.
  • Hospitals, medical practices and veterinary clinics.
  • Beauty centres and spas.

🧺 Care

  • Wash at 60 °C. Cotton tolerates higher temperatures than blends with elastane.
  • Shrinks more than blends: 100% cotton loses a little size in the first wash. This is normal for this fibre.
  • Creases easily and needs more ironing than polyester-blend scrubs.
  • Takes longer to dry than synthetic blends.
  • Being white 100% cotton, it tolerates whiteners better than polyester.

💡 Tip: Order one size up from your usual. Pure cotton shrinks considerably more in the first wash than a 65/35 blend, and in trousers this is most noticeable in the leg length: what was a correct hem becomes ankle length. If you are buying for a workforce, let them know before taking sizes; it is the number one cause of exchanges in the first month with pure cotton garments.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the tunic included?

No. 533005 is the trousers only. The matching tunic, also in 100% cotton, is reference 535205.

Why choose 100% cotton instead of a blend?

For two reasons. Safety in the event of sparks or radiant heat, because cotton chars whereas polyester melts and sticks to the skin. And comfort for wearers with skin sensitivity to synthetic fibres.

Is it a flame-retardant garment?

No. Being cotton makes it less dangerous than a polyester garment when exposed to a spark, but it is not a certified flame-retardant garment. Real thermal risk requires a garment certified to a specific EN standard.

Does it shrink in the wash?

Yes, more than 65/35 blends, and in trousers it is most noticeable in the leg length. Order one size up from your usual.

Can it withstand industrial washing at 90 degrees?

The manufacturer specifies 60 °C. Cotton tolerates high temperatures better than blends with elastane, but at 90 °C shrinkage increases sharply.

Can it be sterilised in an autoclave?

Cotton withstands steam better than polyester, but the garment is not approved as an autoclave textile. For sterilisation, textiles validated for that process must be used.

Is it see-through, being white?

No. The 190 g/m² gives the fabric enough body.
